In the modern day and age, one might ask, "what place has poetry?"

I would submit that it is more vital than ever. Through it, we connect with the sense of wonder a poem can dredge from our heart of hearts. This is the stuff of soul: not just words, but ideas swimming deep beneath the surface of reality -- within and around us -- evocative and cerebral, cool in the mind, warm in the mouth. Poems have the power to make us think...

So, there must be a place for poetry. Without its lifeline, humanity suffers disconnect from psychic umbilical to universe. 

Without poetry, all is but a shallow sea. If modernity has no poetry, then modernity takes a leap backward, no longer truly modern.

We need our poems like we need breath. So let's breathe them in. We need poetry because we need our heart. Its rhythm is our drumbeat. To ask what place it has is like asking "what use has food?" 

Poetry has every place in us. No requirement to seek it out; it's already there. We need it because we need to remember our own sense of wonder. Poetry is alive, and it is everywhere around us.
